Coming up with fresh content ideas is much more challenging than it sounds. As they say; ‘nothing is original’. The internet gives us an endless flow of content in the form of blogs, podcasts, videos and more; this means that there is more competition than ever before and finding new topics has become far more difficult. On Wordpress alone, there are more than 70 million blog posts released every single month! That’s a lot of content to contend with. Keeping up with the ever changing trends whilst also trying to generate innovative content ideas seems almost impossible.
But, it’s not completely hopeless.
Developing content ideas is all about having a streamlined process that works for you. Everyone works differently, and so, the way that you come up with ideas will depend on what type of thinker you are. There are various ways that you can come up with new content ideas, you just have to find the technique that works best for you. We are going to tell you why it is important to publish fresh content as well as the 10 best ways to generate content ideas. Read some more tips on content creation in our previous blog.
Content has become a core part of every digital marketing strategy with over 70% of marketers pouring their annual budget into content marketing. The reason why content is so important is because it builds trust with your audience.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to trust.
People attend your clinic because of your reputation; when it comes to aesthetics, people want to know that they are receiving the safest, most effective and most professional treatment that they possibly can. Great content is the perfect way to build brand awareness because it tells your prospects how well you know your industry; this is a chance to showcase your knowledge and expertise and assure your audience of your high authority within the aesthetics sector.
In order to prove that you’re the best in the business, you need to keep your content current, on-trend and up-to-date. If you’re releasing articles on topics that you’ve already written about, this suggests that you don’t have any more value to add to your audience. To gain true loyalty from your audience, you need to consistently produce content that is useful to your clients.
Another key reason for coming up with new content ideas is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). SEO rankings determine how high up your site appears in search engines; Google ranks your website based on a variety of factors including backlinks, page speed, social shares and content. Ensuring that your content is high quality and fresh means that you will be more likely to rank within the top Google search results, making your site more discoverable for potential clients.
Input your text in this aStart by making a list of keywords and topics that you want to create content for; this might be something like ‘acne prone skin’, ‘acne prevention’, and ‘acne prone skincare routine’. Once you have a few keywords and topics, turn them into a list of questions; e.g. ‘how to prevent acne?’, ‘how to get rid of acne?’ And ‘how to treat acne?’. Start typing these questions into Google and look at the auto-complete suggestions (see image below); this gives you an idea of what people are currently searching for.
Search one of these questions and wait for the search results page to load. Once the results page is visible, scroll to the bottom of the page where you will see ‘related searches’; this will show you all of the popular search queries relating to this topic. This is a simple but effective way of finding topics that people are currently talking about, giving you great material for your content.
Given that you are trying to produce content that is useful for your audience, why not ask them what they would like to hear about? This can be done through polls on social media or quick surveys sent out in email campaigns. If you can’t decide between two topics, put it to a vote! If you can’t think of an initial topic, check out the comments on your current blogs and social media posts to see what people are engaging with the most.
Sometimes, an idea can be sitting right in front of you, you just need to know where to look. Comb through all of your existing blog content and pick out topics that you briefly touched on and then expand on it; for example, if you referred to the risks of dermal fillers in one of your blogs, you could write an in-depth piece on dermal fillers safety.
There are always questions that haven’t been answered, you just need to figure out which ones they are. Alternatively, you could create a list post of all the topics you have covered so far; this involves choosing your top 10 points (i.e. best anti-ageing treatments) and breaking them down into small digestible chunks. This is also a great opportunity to add inbound links to your other blog posts which explores these points in more detail.
Collaborating with others is another great way to generate fresh content. Host a brainstorming session with your colleagues; sometimes it can be good to get a fresh pair of eyes on a project.
Make sure that you assign a host for the session; this person will make sure that everyone stays focused and gets the most out of the meeting. The host should also make all participants feel comfortable enough to share their ideas no matter how random or obscure they may initially be. Use this brainstorm to look for inspiration from your team and you may be surprised at what you all come up with.
Checking out your competition is always a must when looking for inspiration for content ideas. By consuming your competitor’s content, you can find out what other industry experts are talking about. Look at how well their content is performing and see if you can incorporate some of their ideas into your new piece of content, but make your version even better!
Online forums are the perfect place to find trending topics for your content. You can use Quora in the same way as you use Google related searches; simply type in a topic or question (i.e. chemical peels/how do chemical peels work?) and it will bring up a list of questions that people are currently asking in relation to that topic.
Similarly, Reddit is another popular platform which helps you to understand the pain points of your audience. These forums outline the key challenges of your audience, giving exactly what you need to address their problems through your content.
Email campaign analytics are absolute GOLD! When you send out an email campaign, you can see exactly who has opened it, who has clicked a link and who has shared it. This gives you a great idea of what people are interested in right now; for example, if you can see that 80% of your mail subscribers clicked a click for micro-needling treatments, this tells you that those subscribers are currently interested in micro-needling. You can use this information to narrow your topic and provide useful information that your audience want to know more about.
In the same way that you want to look at your competitors, it is also a good idea to follow a bunch of industry experts. These people will be the first to know about new trends within the aesthetics business and can help you to identify what topics could be turned into valuable content.
We all get stuck in a rut when it comes to creating content; it’s easy to get comfortable using one format, like ‘how to’ blogs for example. Trying out new formats can get you out of your comfort zone, allowing you to create something with a new perspective. Try creating step by step guide or busting an industry myth busting or maybe even delving into one of your successful case studies.
Once you have exhausted all of these methods, the best thing you can do is to take a break. We have all stared at a blank Word document before, waiting for inspiration to strike. Now and again, you just need to remove yourself from your workspace and do something completely different. Put work out of your mind and go for a walk, make a cup of tea or meet a friend. This can be one of the most effective ways to generate new ideas because we always have a lightbulb moment when we least expect it.
If you are ever struggling to think of ideas for new content, try out a few of these methods and let us know how you get on. Running a business always takes up so much time and energy, so if you ever want someone else to help you out with content creation, book a consultation with us today.
